British spelling is closest to the Middle English form of the word, whereas the American spelling is closest to its Latin ancestor.   Examples:  colour - color | humour - humor | favourite - favorite | theatre - theater | kilometre - kilometer | mum - mom | realise - realize | traveller - traveler | cheque - check | tyre - tire. Definition: Editor-at-large: a journalist who contributes content to a publication. "At large" means the editor has no specific assignments, but rather works on whatever interests them.
