The video is true motion-flow interpolated from the original 4 frames per second to 30 frames per second. (This is the first time this method has been used for Curiosity footage.)   In order to render the heat shield smoothly fall away, Canning had to separate the film into two independently moving layers, processing each one separately.   He also added sound - the whooshing winds of Mars as the rover descended on its supersonic parachute and the the sound of Curiosity’s rockets firing just before touchdown very much add to the realism.
