Comment by Jim Davidson: "That's the USS Trepang SSN 674 surfacing near Ice Camp Opal in late April 1985.  I know because I was at the helm when we surfaced.  There were camera crews there because we picked up the Chief of Naval Operations James D. Watkins and a slew of Admirals for a little cruise under the ice.  The Stars and Stripes magazine was there with cameras and video.  After surfacing again to drop off the Admirals, we headed to the North Pole and surfaced there, through 6 feet of ice, on May 3."
