La Traviata (literally "The Woman Who Strayed") is an opera by Giuseppe Verdi, based on true events in the life of a real, 19th century French socialite, who had many famous lovers, went through numerous fortunes and died of tuberculosis at the tender age of 23.
It is third on Opera America's list of the 20 most-performed operas in North America (after "Madame Butterfly" and "La Bohème".)

The duet chorus "Let's Drink From The Joyful Cup" ("Libiamo ne' lieti calici") is one of the best-known opera melodies.

The performance takes place at the Reading Terminal Market, an enclosed farmers market in downtown Philadelphia. It opened in 1892 and now has over 100 merchands selling fresh produce, meats, fish, groceries, ice cream, flowers, bakeries, crafts, and ethnic foods.
