The ship - also known as MS Pride of Calais - was a cross-channel ferry which served the Dover to Calais route between 1987 and 2012.
"Beaching" means "to run a ship onto the shore."  This technique can be used to bring a ship in the shipyard for it to be dismantled for parts.
