Non-Newtonian fluid is so named because it's properties cannot be described in terms of the concepts of classical fluids.  It can be created easily in the home. 
An example is a mixture of corn starch and water, roughly 10 parts cornstarch to 1 water.  When stress is applied to the liquid it exhibits properties of a solid.
