18 archeologists are able to 'walk' the 10-foot-tall, 5-ton replica statue forward, using ropes to rock the gigantic statue back and forth.   This theory fits in well with the islanders' own mythology, which claims that the moai walked across the island.
The monolithic human figures were carved from rock on the Chilean Polynesian island of Easter Island between the years 1250 and 1500. The 'moai' are chiefly the living faces of deified ancestors.   Map   latimes.com
