The Apophis asteroid, a gargantuan space rock taller than the Eiffel Tower, is set to speed perilously and unprecedentedly close to Earth in 2029 at an astounding distance of just 19,000 miles.  Apophis is named after the Egyptian God of Chaos.  On average, one asteroid the size of Apophis (370 metres or 1213 feet) can be expected to impact Earth about every 80,000 years.
