First "Feather" Flight - Spaceship Two

Re-entry into the atmosphere has been one of the biggest challenges of space flight. Virgin Galactic uses an innovative system called "feathering" - the wings on the craft rotate 90 degrees upward to achieve more aerodynamic drag on reentry. This is the first time it has been tested in flight.

On May 4, 2011, the first test of the "feathering" mechanism was made with Spaceship Two after release from the White Knight Two.
