The Austrian jumped from 128,097ft (24.2 miles; 39km). He fell for four minutes and 19 seconds, reaching a speed of 833 mph (1340 km/h). This is faster than the speed of sound (768 mph / 1,236 km/h).  This means Baumgartner is the first human being to travel faster than the speed of sound without being inside a craft.
