Music: "One Man's Dream" by Yanni   The map was created by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III, using a 2.5 meter telescope with sensitive electronic light detectors to systematically map a quarter of the sky, building a catalog of celestial objects. There are 400,000 galaxies in the animation, each galaxy, measuring hundreds of thousands of light years side-to-side. Vast as this slice of the universe seems, its most distant reach is to roughly 1.3 billion light years from Earth. (Not yet included in this map are an additional half a million galaxies at up to 7 billion light years distant, which have been identified by Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 9.)   sdss3.org
